Focus Point Vision Care Group Sdn Bhd: Empowering Future Optometrists through Community Investment
On July 29, 2024, Focus Point Vision Care Group Sdn Bhd (Focus Point) took a significant step towards supporting education and development of future optometrists by awarding RM132,000 in scholarships to five outstanding optometry students from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) for the 2023/2024 semester. The scholarship presentation ceremony was held at the UKM Campus Kuala Lumpur, where President & CEO of Focus Point, Dato' Liaw, personally handed over the cheque and delivered an inspiring speech.
At Focus Point, our mission has always been to make quality vision care more accessible to the community. Optometrists play a crucial role in this mission. They are the frontline champions of eye health, ensuring that everyone, from the young to the elderly, receives the best possible vision care. This community investment aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), underscoring our commitment to fostering educational opportunities and advancing eye health awareness. By supporting the education and development of future optometrists, we are not only investing in the individuals but also in the well-being of our entire community.
In his address, Dato' Liaw highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating, "We recognize the importance of nurturing talent and providing growth opportunities. We are proud to collaborate with UKM in achieving our goal of empowering optometry students by awarding scholarships, providing internship support, and employment opportunities."
Focus Point support continuous education and invest in state-of-the-art equipment such as AI-assisted fundus photography to facilitate vision care consultations and enhance the practice of optometry. By doing so, we aim to equip these future professionals with the skills and competencies they need to excel in their careers and make a positive impact on society.
Beyond providing quality vision care, Focus Point is also passionate about community education. Enhancing visibility and awareness of eye and vision health management is a priority for us. Through various initiatives and programs, we strive to educate the public about the importance of regular eye check-ups, proper eye care, and early detection of vision problems. "In addition to the in-store optometry experience, Focus Point is also committed to increasing vision care outreach by organizing Advanced Primary Eye Care roadshows to provide screening and primary eye care to the community.
In the last two years, we have conducted over 16,000 primary eye care screenings through the roadshows." – said by Dato’ Liaw during the ceremony.
This initiative not only marked a milestone for the scholarship recipients but also Focus Point in its mission to make a meaningful impact through strategic community investments. Through this partnership with UKM, it reflects our dedication to enhance educational and development opportunities for the optometrists and work towards a brighter and healthier future.
